[MSI] Replace fileΒΆ

Replace the existing file of the package, stored as uncompressed or compressed to internal/external CAB, with the new file source.

Warning

Only files that are stored in the File table can be replaced.

Important

Precondition: Open an MSI package in MSI Editor (see Open MSI/MST).

  1. Go to the Package Designer > Files and folders tab.

  2. Select Replace file from the context menu of a file that you need to replace.

    Note

    Note that the selected file must be located in the File table. Find the table name in the last column of the files and folders tree.

  3. Choose a new file source and click Open.

  4. By default, file details such as size, version and language will be updated in the File table. For files, that are compressed in CAB, you can select Media options that define how to save new file source: place to a new CAB (faster) or rebuild the existing CAB (slower). After that, click Replace.
