[MSI] Add custom actionΒΆ

Add a custom action to the MSI package to launch EXE, call function from DLL, run VBScript, Jscript, set a new property, folder path, or display an error message.

Important

Precondition: Open an MSI package in MSI Editor (see Open MSI/MST).

  1. Go to the Package Designer > Custom actions tab.

  2. Select Add > Custom action from the toolbox.

  3. Select a basic type (e.g. Run a VBScript), and click Next.

    This manual describes creation of the Run a VBScript custom action.

  4. Specify a location of the VBScript file or paste a script body directly into the custom action. Then, click Next.

  5. Enter an Action name, select Execution mode (Immediate, Deferred, Rollback or Commit), execution context, scheduling, return processing and other options. Then, click Next.

    All incompatiable options are disabled.

  6. Select a secuence where and when to run the custom action. The sequence drop-down list allows you to select only compatible positions, taking into account your previously selected options. If needed, specify execution conditions either by entering them manually or choosing from the drop-down list. Click Finish to add your custom action.
